Vytautas Germanavicius was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1969. In his early years he studied accordion, classical and jazz piano. In 1996 he graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music with BA, MA in composition under Julius Juzeliunas. In 2005 he received an MFA in electronic music from Mills College, USA. He also studied composition with Jonathan Harvey and Alvin Curran.

He was a recipient of the FULBRIGHT-Scholarship USA (2003), UNESCO-Aschberg Bursary for residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada (2000), 2nd prize from the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) International Competition for Electroacoustic Music “Short Cuts: Beauty”, Germany (2006), Elizabeth Mills Crothers Award in Composition, Mills College, USA (2005). He was composer in residence at Visby International Composers Center, Sweden (2001).

Vytautas Germanavicius is a composer of many works for chamber ensembles, orchestra, choir, traditional instruments and electronics – special interest in computer-controlled live sound performance. As a piano and computer music player he performed his music in Other Minds BRINK Music Series, RX Gallery, Off-Market Theaters, San Francisco; Signal Flow Music and Intermedia Festival, Oakland, CA, USA; Musicacoustica 2005: Mix, Beijing, China; Is Arti Contemporary Music Festival, Kaunas, Lithuania.

Germanavicius' music has been performed by prominent orchestras and ensembles; the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Amstel and Stockholm Saxophone Quartets, Helikon Ensemble, Kammarensemblen among others Internationally, and in Lithuania by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and various chamber music groups.

His music is performed in festivals in Europe, Asia and America.
