Composer/guitarist/rapper Gene Pritsker has written over two hundred ninety compositions, including chamber operas, orchestral and chamber works and songs for hip-hop and rock ensembles. All of his compositions employ an eclectic spectrum of styles and are influenced by his studies of various musical cultures. He is the founder and leader of Sound Liberation, an eclectic band playing the New York club circuit. He is also co-founder of the Absolute Ensemble and Associate Director of Composers' Concordance since 2004. In recent years Absolute have performed arrangements by Gene of Frank Zappa’s music as well as many of his own compositions, including Lost Illusion, a concerto for bass, orchestra and samplestra (pre recorded electronics); this piece was also performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra with Mat Fieldes on various basses and Kristjan Jarvi conducting. In 2006, Gene orchestrated music for the movie ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’ directed by Tom Tykwer. He is also working with Joe Zawinul, as he arranges/orchestrates Zawinul's music for the Absolute Ensemble to be premiered in Bremen, Germany in September 2006 and toured around the world in upcoming years. For 2008, Gene has written a one-and-a-half hour concerto for piano, bass, drums & orchestra The Three Stages of Truth. It is to be premiered by the HRP Trio and conductor Kristan Jarvi.
