Yohei Kurihara received his diploma in contemporary composition from the Berklee College of Music in 2004, under the teachings of John Bavicchi. During this process, he received several awards including the Scholarship for Excellence in Composition, and the Allan Reese Residency award for his work "Two 4 Strings" performed by the Esterhazy String Quartet.

After graduation, Kurihara established Aggregate a group of composers from Boston, to represent local talent in the art of contemporary composition. Kurihara and Aggregate have had a number of successful concerts at some of the major concert halls throughout the east coast, such as Institute of Contemporary Art concert hall in Boston, M.A, Columbia Artists Management, Inc hall, NewYork, NY.

Kurihara’s works have been awarded with the ERM international composition competition, selected in the first ten of today’s composers, and has been broadcast on the London Musicians' Collective's radio station as an emerging Japanese composer.

Kurihara has received commissions from pianist, Mika Tanaka, and percussionist, John Singer. His works have been performed by ensembles such as the Esterhazy String Quartet, Katja Lammermann string Quartet and pianist, Chi-Chen Wu, Mika Tanaka.
